The main things that people know about Bangladesh are linked to the standards of life, poverty and economy. As the Bangladesh poverty rate is one of the highest in the world and the economy of Bangladesh is one of the most fragile in the world, the picture of this country seems to be quite complete. But there is much more to Bangladesh and to its poverty. This country is home to individuals who have populated it for thousands of years and it is a country with a rich history, worth being aware of. Here one can read more about the Bangladesh history and for those who care Bangladesh is a place that might have a point and a difference to make for its inhabitants and visitors altogether.

Specialists claim that the civilization in the area of Bengal dates for more than four thousand years and they argue that the region was firstly occupied by Dravidian people together with Tibeto-Burman civilizations as well as Austro-Asiatic tribes. There is little evidence as with regards to the origin of the ‘Bengal’ word but there is a consensus among the specialists that it derives from the language of the Dravidians, the first tribe to settle in the region around the year 1000 BC. Given the numerous populations settling in the area, the history of Bangladesh became quite troubled and there is no wonder why. The first kingdom is said to have appeared in the 7th century BC which had later on united with Bihar under different empires, namely Nanda, Mauryan, Sunga and Magadha. Moreover, it is said that Bengal was part of the Harsha Empire and Gupta Empire between the 3rd and 6th century. In the medieval times, Europeans would describe the area surrounding the mouth of the Ganges as paradise. At that time, Bengal is said to have been one of the most flourishing parts of the continent.
